Week 8 (Coding DevLog #2) - I'm cooking...


Honestly, don't have much to say for now...and I need to write this one up fast to hang with some friends, but here's the new news digital dev-wise!

First, engine switch!

Due to a...certain other game existing that is also a visual novel about Little Red Riding Hood also created in Ren'py with the exact same style, we switched engines before starting dev to broaden out our possibilities and separate the game from that of a visual novel game! We're now using Unity! (my home...I will cook now...)

Second, new repo!

Obviously as a side effect, a new GitHub repo has been created!

Third, a look at what's being made so far on my end.

So the first idea I suggested taking this direction was a gameplay system similar to the one present in Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. In this game, there's still visual novel aspects, but you have to move by a grid to go places!

In our game, instead of having to click adjacent spaces on the map like in Corpse Party, you can just use the iconic movement keys(WASD/Arrow Keys) to nav to adjacent places. Here's a little demo video to showcase what I mean(Don't mind the Library of Ruina music, I was locked in):

This version is the exact same as the one in the repo at the time of this devlog's posting, so the code is there! (I put in the desc what I will work on next to really flesh this out then move on to the next thing) <==== no longer true but code isn't changed


All in all, yeah this devlog is just to show that I am doing my thing lol, will be a lot more by Wednesday!
